Is
This ?
New York City was built by water, yet many of its waterways
are now experienced as polluted, distant, or unreadable.
Waste That Flows Both Ways responds to combined sewer overflow by transforming hidden water contamination risk into a public spatial experience.
Through light, space, and public interaction, the project invites visitors to notice, pause, and rethink their relationship with urban water.
The Gallery gives visitors a walk-through
space for interpreting the project and its relationship to urban water.

What the
project
combines ?
Illuminated Shoreline Live Sensers
The video follows Matthew through an apocalyptic world where the waterways of NYC are too polluted for bare interactions. It will follow his daily life as he reminisces about the days when NYC’s waters were an integral part of society. A twist occurs when, in fact, Matthew is not in an apocalyptic world, but it is actually 2026, where the state of the water is as bad as described. He wants to bring change through live sensors and public engagement.
